Dear Theo & Everyone - Do I?

Discussion in 'Jobseekers' started by patchi, Jan 28, 2012.

  1. Around 2 weeks ago, a local indepedent school advertised a residential role including a number of hours working as a TA, which I applied for and the deadline/shortlisting isn't until next week. This role starts in September and is for a year.
It has come to my attention that another role at the school has just become advertised and reading the job description for this post, I also meet all the requirements. This role starts in April and is also for a year. The deadline is a week after the role I have already applied for.
The application form is different from the one I have already
completed as it appears it doesn't need as detailed information and is
not asking for a personal statement, just a covering letter. The other
application asked for both of these.

I'm wondering if I should apply for this second vacancy? There is all the possibility that I will hear whether I'm successful or not about job #1 before the deadline and I don't want to come across as desperate if I apply for this additional role. As the school is local to me, I'm aware of its reputation and many people I've met over the years (parents, former students etc) have all sang the school's praises. As a youngster, I also spent time at the school's summer camp - Great memories!

    Any advice is appreciated :D

  2. You could always wait to hear back about job 1, and if you don't get it apply for job 2, as you state the deadline for this is for after you'll of heard about job 1. I would say apply for it, just in case you don't hear back about the first post you applied for. You really don't have anything to lose, and if they ask you why you applied for both posts you could just say 'because I've heard what such a good school this is and would really like to work here!'

    Good luck whatever you decide.

That's it - have the application for the second all ready and keep it up your sleeve before delivering it at the last moment.
    Good luck!
