    Dear Theo
Can I ask what is the etiquette for accepting a job if I should be offered it, or whether you could point me to any guidance on this? Thanks

    .

Hullo there, and welcome to the forum.

    Loads of stuff available!

    Etiquette for resigning

The first thing to remember is that if you accept, that's that. You cannot then go to another interview to see if you can get another job you like better.

    Two interviews and a dilemma

The second thing is to write the correct letter

    Letter: accepting a teaching job

    Letter: resigning a teaching job

    Then, your contract

When should you get your contract?

Finally you need to read and do all this

    Get yourself organised

    Including this:

    Join a Union. Yes, now!

And with luck you won't need to think about this . . .

I’ve booked a holiday for the start of term. Help!

    Hope all this is helpful.

    Best wishes

    .

Do I have to accept right away when they call?

Of course not - but be aware that they can withdraw the offer if you don't, especially if they asked you at interview ("Are you still a firm candidate for this post?" or "If offered the post, will you accept?" Be aware that if you say "No" to that question you're out of the running for it (and if they ask at the beginning of the formal interview, they will show you the door).

You can ask for extra time to think about it - but they might withdraw the offer there and then, especially if there was at least one other good candidate.
