Dear Joe - re: YASS Open University Modules in School

Discussion in 'Modern foreign languages' started by sandramclean, Jan 16, 2012.

  1. Hi Joe

Until recently we have offered a "Crash" Higher in one year in Spanish. Where pupils have an interest and an aptitude for language learning this works very well. Unfortunately this session I have been told that the class cannot be timetabled and the Head Teacher suggests that pupils could undertake a YASS module in Spanish from the OU. From what I can make out from the website, it appears that this would take them up to first year University level. The course also appears to run from October to October, which would not fit in with our school terms.

Does anyone have any experience of using these courses in Spanish? Can anyone advise if the level would be suitable for complete beginners with virtually no teacher input?

    Thanks advance for your thoughts.

    Hi Sandra,
I did ask for advice about YASS on Twitter, but haven't any replies yet. All I could find was the YASS link http://www8.open.ac.uk/choose/yass.
Sorry not to be more helpful.
    Best wishes
    Joe

  4. Thanks Joe.

I really don't know what to advise these pupils as I am working totally in the dark.

Oh well. I suppose it will all work out in the end.

    Sandra
