Dear James

Discussion in 'NQTs and new teachers' started by Florence86, Jun 25, 2011.

  1. I start my NQT induction in September but have an induction meeting with my NQT mentor in two weeks time. I graduated in 2010 (in Wales) and when I was in Uni I was given some sort of induction booklet. However since moving to England I have lost this, but am worried that my mentor will be expecting me to bring it to this meeting. Half of this document was in Welsh so I'm not sure it would be much use in an English school. Do you know if NQTs are expected to have any documents from university regrading their induction?
    Thank you
  2. Hi
This is your first meetinmg and it is a chance to get to know your mentor and sort out a few things, e.g. your training needs - where you feel you have strengths and if there are areas that you still need to develop. You should also have an outline of the induction year and agree a timetable for mentor meetings and observations.
I suggest that you read through the NQT statutory guidance which will be in force,

For those who train in England they complete a career entry and development profile (CEDP) for transition poiunt 1, the transition from training to induction. This is not compulsory, but is very useful. You can create your own by following the link below and simply filling in the various sections.
Many schools do not require a CEDP, some like them to be completed and signed off by the provider, so you could ask your tutor to do this (there is a signature page (9) that could be sent to the tutor for completion along with a copy of your CEDP.

Good luck in the new job!
