Is it possible to work in Dubai as a NQT or do I need to gain my QTS first? I understand that I have five years to obtain this and cannot do so unless in the UK but can I apply for jobs starting in September 2011 even tho I wont be a NQT untill the summer?

  2. Hi
Unfortunately you will not be able to complete an induction year in Dubai. Gaining QTS happens once you mee the standards for QTS and have been seen on a final assesment in your GTP post. You will be assessed when the school and the apporpriate body (usually a university) feel that you are ready and have the evdien ce for meeting the standards.
You can apply for teaching jobs before you gain QTS and normally any contract of employment will be subject or conditional on you gaining QTS.
There is no 5 year time limit between gaining QTS and passing induction, this ruling was scrapped some years ago. If you work in Dubai having gained QTS but not having passed induction, if you then return to this country you would hjave to then do an induction year and pass induction. A number of people have done this in the past.
    James
