Dancing in the street... is an arrestable offence...

A 14-year-old boy who went viral on Twitter for dancing the Macarena in a busy Saudi Arabian street has been arrested by authorities.

The teenager is being questioned after being accused of "improper public behaviour" in Jeddah, a statement said.

It is not clear what his nationality was or if he will be formally charged by the public prosecutor.

A simple pleasure in Western society or immoral activity in the Middle East?

He'd probably been to summer school in the UK! La Macarena is very popular in the teen discos!

There were a lot of copycat videos after Pharrel Williams' Happy video, the one underneath is an amalgam which I just happened to find.

Many of the videos were of people dancing in countries where it was illegal and so were risking prosecution by posting the videos.

Ooh, @Dunteachin. I do too and not always on the dance floor.

He wasn't just dancing the Macarena (something which he could, and perhaps should, have done at home in front of the mirror in his own bedroom seeing as he is an annoying self-promoting overweight kid with terrible dress sense), he was deliberately holding up the traffic.

The over-dubbed music may well have been the Macarena but I'll bet the real sound track was a cacaphony of car horns and shouts of:

الخروج من الطريق الذي رهيبة طفل الدهون

    or words to that effect!

FWIW, I really like the video posted by @irs1054 above. How things should be done.

Thinking on this... the media is clearly spinning this to make Saudi look intolerant and uber-Islamic. The kid was blocking traffic.

But no it's Saudi cracking down on a song. Interesting spin they've gone for.
