Hi. I'm a new governor but also I'm a volunteer at the school. When I went in recently they wanted me to sign in as a governor. Does that mean that I'm volunteering with this class as my role as a governor? I've volunteered with this teacher in the past, before I became a governor (it was this teacher who suggested I become a governor) and we have a good relationship.

@chaliecollie1 It's important that you understand the difference between roles, between being in school in your capacity as a governor and being in school in your capacity as a volunteer. Becoming a governor hasn't changed your role when you are in the classroom helping out, reading with pupils etc. That is not part of being a governor and you are not helping out in the classroom as a governor.

It doesn't really matter that the receptionist doesn't understand difference in roles. I wouldn't worry what they sign you in as. What they write on your name badge does not define you!
