Creepy songs

Discussion in 'Personal' started by anon3372, Feb 4, 2011.

  1. This one really makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up - I hate it, hate it, hate it.
I cannot even bring myself to post the Cliff Richard version, so you will have to do with the Neil Diamond version.

    Girl...you will be a woman soon...Girl...soon, you'll need a man...
Oh spit, spit, spit. Creepy, creepy, creepy.

  3. Yes, I've always thought it a bit pervy. Can't imagine Cliff singing this though!

  4. He did! It is even creepier...

The Candyman. Bloody Chris Evans plays it every Friday - WHY? It's like a paedo anthem.

"I drove all night, crept in your room
Woke you from your sleep to make love to you"

    Creepy!

I agree with manashee - I've always liked the Urge Overkill version featured in 'Pulp Fiction', but watching an ageing Neil Diamond performing it does have slightly disturbing connotations. However, it was originally released in 1967 so we maybe put too much of a modern interpretation on it.
Another song you don't hear very much any more is Gilbert O'Sullivan's blockbuster hit 'Claire', which in its day was seen as nothing more than an affectionate tribute to his neice. One can't help thinking if he performed it live today he'd be arrested and put on the Sex Offender's Register.
On a more sinister note, some of Gary Glitter's lyrics have grooming overtones when viewed with hindsight: "Do you wanna be in my gang, my gang my gang" etc etc

  11. Are we restricting ourselves to songs with paedo overtones....because if it's just creepy Alice Cooper "I LOVE THE DEAD" is a classic!

  12. Nouvelle Vague's version of Killing Moon is creepy, but in a good way:

I don't like that the shopkeeper gives the poor girl a good wack at 1:39

  14. I read this and was thinking "what was creepy about it?" and started humming along - then I googled the lyrics. Oh my word! My innocent childhood illusions have been smashed to smithereens! I always thought of it as a nice little ditty from an uncle to a niece - I hadn't seen the possibility that it could be interpreted in a pervy way!

Nor should it be, but imagine if it was released today?

I'll leave you to sweep up the fragments of your innocent childhood illusions whilst reflecting on the folly of modern society's paedo paranoia ;-)

  16. I have just listened to it on youtube and still find it very innocent!

  17. Possible antidote

The other was co-written by Anthony Newley, so you'd expect it to be a bit, erm, odd!

  18. Thanks for the reminder - that might just hit the decks while we eat/play cribbage later!

  19. Hello This is Joanie.
    God awful.
