    Hi everyone,

I just started a new position as a part time NQT in humanities. This is my second week. SLt has asked me to cover some classes until Christmas holidays. I have had no opportunity to seat with HoD of department for hand over and also don't have timetable yet. Today the SLT has asked me if I am ok to teach another subject another subject which I have no subject knowledge in. I politely said I would prefer to teach the subject that I was employed for. My question is, can the school make me teach another subject?

Although this doesn't sound like a good idea for an NQT the strictly legal position is that a qualified teacher is qualified to teach any subject, and teachers are usually employed, in their employment contracts, just as a 'teacher' and can be assigned a class in any subject at the head's discretion.

I teach two non specialists subjects besides my specialist one. This seems to be quite common actually
