    Hi all,

Just curious really. What date do your school set for you giving notice to extend or end your contract? Our school seems to be getting ridiculously early.

Beginning of December for us. Early January if you ask nicely.

My last school was end of first week back in January.
Checked with a colleague today about when my current school does this and she said October!

There are schools who want to know early, say by November, even as early as October. This is because it will give them the pool of Southern hemisphere teachers, NZ and AUS for example whose academic year finishes in December. There are 'tier one' schools who will start advertising positions by November.

Currently the deadline is by the 1st week of January, straight after the xmas break.

We get to submit a letter of none binding intent before the Christmas holidays, option 1 we are definitely staying, 2 we are definitely leaving and 3 we are actively looking.

This gives the principal the information required to start the recruitment process. But by the end of February you need to finalize your decision.

The most common in my experience.

October is when our school observes us new teachers and advises whether they want to renew our one year contract.

on our side in the contract it states the contract is automatically renewed on 28th February Unless either side has terminated.

so my guess is renewal will be offered October / November time and we will have until February to make our decision.

Policemen look younger and resignation dates get earlier as you grow old.

Many Principals like early resignation dates as it allows a nice paid for trip to London for recruiting around the second week in December!

That make nearly 8 months to sit in a divided staffroom, not a pleasant experience.
