I have just been given my coordinator role for Computing and would love some advice. I've taken over from someone who left the school a year ago so not loads of support and I would say that apart from being tech savvy myself I have little/no understanding of planning a way to deliver the Computing curriculum. It is an area that I struggle to teach myself - although I know leading could improve this.

We are due Ofsted and so I don't know whether it is a good time to admit this to the head or not. I know there is no money in the budget to support the subject...

My question is - how does your school do it? Would you advise me to confess all to the Head or pay for my own training to improve? We currently have a set of netbooks per key stage and a j2e login but I'm not fond of the interface as it is quite difficult to use - although since I am fairly new to the school I may have missed extra training.

Any advice would be great - the whole idea of being inspected when I know virtually nothing about my subject except my predecessor's MTPs (which were not embedded before their departure and I believe they aren't taught) and the NC is stressful!

    Confess to the Head.
Sign up for the Computing At Schools website emails and forums. Lots of resources from Computing teachers. They also have a booklet about what to teach, on their site
Join a facebook group related to Computer Science.
Ask your Head to help you to set up a meeting with a nearby school and their Computing department.
    Buy a subscription for www.teach-ict.com.
Learn how to code using the Scratch website.
Learn how to code using Python - PGonline have a good textbook and will send you one free inspection copy.
Good luck. I am a non specialist Computing teacher and the above helped me greatly.

Do you have a particular scheme that you use? Thanks for the above :)
