completing final term of induction in a secondary school

Discussion in 'New teachers' started by sparveen, Jan 27, 2011.

  1. Hi I've completed my first two terms of induction in a primary school I have now been offered a part time job at secondary school. Is it possible for me to complete my third term of induction? Or do I have to complete it in a primary school? By the way I am trained as aprimary teacher. I'm confused at the moment and any help would be appreciated.

You can but there will be no allowances made if you fail to meet any of the standards, so only do it if your confident you can do it well xx

  4. Yes! I have done the same but in reverse, I trained as a seconday school teacher where I did 2 of my 3 terms. I am just about to finish my 3rd term in a primary school, having decided that secondary wasn't for me. Make sure that you are confident with the subject that you are teaching before accepting the post. I spent a year between terms 2 and 3 volunteering and doing primary supply before starting the 3rd term.

The minimum assessment period is one term so your part time job needs to long enough i.e if it was a half timetable then the induction period is 2 terms. The induction calculator on the TDA website can help work it out for other fractions. Do make sure that the assessment reports are passed on to your new school as the LA needs these records to administer the process.
