Comparing texts

Discussion in 'English' started by hollycaleno, Aug 29, 2015.

  1. I'm trying to write a lesson plan for a 7 minute ks3 english sample lesson for my Teach First interview. The title of the lesson is 'make critical comparisons across texts' and I plan to look at two texts and then make statements like 'both the writers use humour to engage the reader' and get the students to say whether they agree or disagree and then give evidence. I am having a nightmare deciding what texts to use. So far considered books: Harry Potter (snore), Holes, Hunger Games, Lemony Snicket, Haroun and the Sea of Stories. Would like to use poetry but struggling to find some thing both short and engaging. Also considered using song lyrics but am pretty out of touch with 11-14 yos. Any suggestions would be very my much appreciated!
