The Clap for our Carers campaign will bring together the nation tonight to thank NHS workers who are tirelessly battling the coronavirus pandemic.

Everyone is invited to applaud those looking after our loved ones from their windows, doorsteps or balconies.

    When is it?

Tonight, so March 26, at 8pm.

Landmarks across the country are set to light up blue during the salute, including the Wembley Arch, the Principality Stadium, the Royal Albert Hall and Lincoln Cathedral. This tribute will be part of the #lightitblue campaign, organised by members of the entertainment and events industry to say thank you.

I will be stood at my door clapping even if the neighbours haven’t seen this and think I’m insane.

We heard about this yesterday and shall be out in the garden. I doubt anyone will hear us with a garden as large as ours, but it's the solidarity. And I think our neighbour is going to have an open line to her daughter - a community nurse. :)

When I saw the thread title, I thought it was going to be in tribute to the 7 million (non-NHS) people who care for our elderly and vulnerable at this difficult time.

Of course, the NHS are deserving of our thanks - but the carers are often forgotten.

    They’re not forgotten.

The Clap For Our Carers campaign poster reads:

“During these unprecedented times they need to know that we are grateful.

"Please join us on: 26th March at 8pm for a big applause (from front doors, garden, balcony, windows, living rooms, etc) to show all nurses, doctors, GPs and carers our appreciation for their ongoing hard work and fight against the virus.

Good. All the publicity I've seen so far, from our neighbourhood groups, the council and your OP here, mentions only the NHS.

Applause for carers might be a better tagline

Unfortunate name. I thought they were only at risk of catching Covid-19!

    Too soon!?

    Where’s @Dunteachin ?

    Lewdness alert. :D

Never even entered my mind until mentioned in posts above. It is a fairly dated term now I suppose.

    Official name of campaign is:
    Clap For Our Carers campaign

Yes, it’s a direct quote from the links pasted below the OP. The links obviously go into a lot more detail about the campaign and what’s happening around the country & with participating celebs etc. I didn’t copy out all the content from the articles of course as people can click on them to find out more.

Call me what you like, I think I will be finding other ways of expressing my gratitude to the NHS.

    I think I'm with you.
I tend to shy away from symbolic virtue as a means to socialise.
I'd rather give a nurse a CV test, lots of masks and a wage rise.

Our street was clapping away. That was unexpected! All the dogs going bonkers, too.

Did they get the clap? I couldn't hear anything round here.

(And I am not being negative, we would be stuffed (or possibly embalmed) without the NHS, but the culpable party is the government for running it down.)

Same here. People were standing in their doorways up and down the road. It was quite a lovely moment in these strange times.

Just been out to clap. Very moving hearing it and hearing the cheers of people. Fireworks going off as well.

Everybody outside their houses applauding round my way in the North East. First time ever I've seen all my neighbours out at once. Sounds of fireworks in the sky too.
