childcare qualifications, any advice?

Discussion in 'Early Years' started by anibee, Apr 12, 2011.

  1. Hello,
I'm doing a level 2 certificate in children's & young people's workforce. I'm doing a placement at a nursery, working with pre-school age children. My course finishes in June and I've started to look at which jobs are coming up, but they nearly all ask for NVQ level 3 or equivalent. Can anyone explain which qualifications are acceptable? And do you need to be in employment to do a level 3?
I've been told there's no funding to do a level 3 at my college & it has to be done through an apprenticeship. But I'm not eligible for an apprenticeship as I have a degree. The level 3 diploma in children's & young people's workforce is offered online. Would this be acceptable to employers, providing I kept up with my placement at the same time?

Any thoughts would be very welcome!
