Charted College of Teaching - Worth joining?

During my initial teacher training I was a student member of the Chartered College of Teaching but, now as a new shiny NQT, I have been offered membership. My question is simple - is it worth joining? The cost is not massive but I am wary just joining something because I have passed my ITT. During my student membership, I received some interesting email newsletters and some of the resources on their site are good but it I suppose the key question is whether it is recognised as a true professional body for teachers and acts as an effective representative body.
