change of head - agreement reneged on

    A friend had an agreement (in writing) with her acting head to work 3.5 days per week from September (from full-time). The acting head has now 'left' (although not officially) and the school is being led by someone from the academy chain. This person has contacted my friend to tell her the previous agreement will not stand and she must work full-time in September.

    Advice, please....

    Assuming the acting Head had the authority at the time to agree a variation to the terms of the contract, it cannot be rescinded. If the acting Head made a 'bad bargain', that's tough! The new one will have to live with it.

    You mention now an academy chain. Has there been a transfer to a new employer, or was the acting Head part of the academy chain?

    It's been an academy for several years. Acting head was a deputy at time of transfer. Became acting head this year. A new head starts in September.
