The core of the complaint from the "linguistics community" in their petition to the Linguistic Society of America are statistical tweets.
Also favourably disposed to the writing of a journalist who wrote an article about someone who wrote a memo about statistics.
I do not think Pinker should be cancelled.

If you do not know Steven Pinker then you can read about him here.
If you would like to see the complaint petition and those troublesome tweets then you can go here.

Here Pinker chats to Joe Rogan.

I wonder for whom the Cancellers will come next.

    'Cancelled'? Sounds North Korean.

Steven Pinker has been associated with the New Atheists. I kinda liked the New Atheists despite being an active Roman Catholic.

Yes it’s a dismal and asinine statement with some fake signatures and the rest from academic non-entities with rubbish like

“tendency to move in the proximity"

"his public support for David Brooks"

    hallucinatory “dog whistles”.

A bunch of butt- hurt, ideologicall possessed third-rate academics screaming at a an academic giant.

Orwell wrote these words for a character,

"“If liberty means anything at all it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.”

Graham Greene thought that Hell might be empty because of the infinite mercy of God, so perhaps the New Atheists might be tucked away in a mezzanine in Heaven, safely out of the way of Aquinas. You could bring them in a tea trolley every couple of millennia.

Those members of the Priesthood following the Latin Rite that I have come across would not like the term Roman Catholic applied to them, over here it makes Latin Rite Catholics jibe.

Indeed. It really does seem that the anti-sex league is with us.

"Has it ever occurred to you, Winston, that by the year 2050, at the very latest, not a single human being will be alive who could understand such a conversation as we are having now?”

And he was also scornful of "the smelly little orthodoxies which are contending for our souls", among which must be numbered what the late Bernard Levin used to call the SIF community - the Single Issue Fanatics.

One of Noam Chomsky's reasons for refusing to sign this petition, I understand.
Having previously defended others' right to speak views with which he disagrees he is not picking favourites.

Given what happened to Faurisson Chomsky has reason to be concerned for Pinker.

There's a similar case in the UK, involving lecturer Mike McCullough.

Lazy or jealous academics are using vague criticism of the scientist’s tone or style to avoid tackling the substance. This undermines the scientific posture of scepticism, of interrogating the logic and evidence of other people’s work in order to hold accountable, encourage rigour, and revise and refine. Criticising a scientist’s style is a cheap shot.

    Move over Elon Musk.
The McCullough Drive will be a marvelous thing.
i wonder which other great figures from history would have been cancelled by today's statue-topplers.
It might be that even now cancel culture is abbreviating scientific progress and human flourishing in huge ways.
