Can landlords charge you more than your deposit when you move out?

Discussion in 'Personal' started by impulce, Feb 4, 2011.

  1. This is not correct.
The landlord is obliged to protect the deposit but does NOT have to lodge it with a third party.
  2. Sorry, flutter, missed your last post.
You are correct that the deposit has to be registered and the tenant informed - but it does not have to be lodged with a third party.
My deposit is lodged in a separate savings account that my landlord has for deposits only - it is, however, his savings account. I am, however, entitled to the interest he has earned with my deposit when I move out.
