Can Bursar / Business Manager also be a Governor at the same school?

My daughter attends the small village school where the Business Manager is also a Governor. Am I correct in thinking this is a conflict of interest in that the GB is in effect her employer so should not hold a voting position?

She could well be the staff Governor.

Governors who have a conflict of interest leave the meeting when those items are discussed.

It should state on the school website what type of governor she is. The GB terms of reference will state how the GB is made up.
  5. They can be, but you would need to be very careful about which sub-committees they sit on and should not vote on their own budget.

Of course, the Head is ultimately responsible for the budget and simply delegates the day-to-day running of it to the bursar.
