can a school make you work on a saturday?

  1. This happens where I am. I went when new to the school, but not any more. All staff (teaching & support) were expected to attend on these days until a couple of years ago, which was hated by most, but it is now voluntary and has taken on a less formal 'just wander' style and nicer air (apparently). We non-attenders don't get the Brownie points though, while those wanting promotion etc. attend to get theirs (and a big 'thank-you' from the head)!!!

Maybe your ht should be acquainted with the notion that "I want" doesn't get. If she tried asking, offering a day off in lieu, and making sure everyone understands that it is voluntary, she might get a better response.
You don't have to offer even a reply, much less a reason. To hell with her.
