Cambridge Nationals ICT R002, R003, R004 marking scheme

Discussion in 'Computing and ICT' started by Massaaako, Oct 31, 2013.

  1. Hi,

My students will be writing their exams next year. The comments on the sites sounds a bit worrying but nevertheless they will be sitting it next year.

Has anyone got their marking scheme and/ criteria for R002, R003 and R004. I would like to compare before submitting their coursework for next February. I wouldn't like to answer some difficult questions when the results are published in June.

    Thank you.

The mark schemes are on the OCR website. Don't worry about the exam it's pretty straightforward. We got 60% A* / A and did very little work on theory before they went in
  3. Thanks djphilllips,

Would it be possible to email me a copy of your marked work, maybe a

Marked form you filled for a student in June. Delete the student name and email if possible.

Need a bit of a hand here please. Email is massaaako@hotmail.com.

I really don't see the point, to have any form of context you would need the work as well. Also I have not been through moderation yet for any of the coursework units as did not submit last summer with my year 10. In any case all you do is highlight the mark band you think the work fits and chuck a few sentences at the ones that are going to be moderated into the form, it's not exactly rocket science

We were marked though for R005 an R006 and pretty severely in places some students down by 8 marks and in terms of graphics I don't think there would be a better one out there for my top student - so I would put them in early so you can then resubmit!
  7. does any of you have a SOW for the course?

    Many thanks
  8. All of our students were marked down for R002, some by 12 marks! I appealed and we did gain some marks back, but not enough. Many of our students have to re-sit the entire unit.
  9. We got r002 marked down considerably in the first sitting meaning the majority of students are having to resubmit work.

This is a worry as they leave just after easter so it is their last chance at getting the marks. If anything goes wrong, nothing else can be done.

I didnt seem to have much CLEAR feedback as to why the marks were brought down.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

Also I am submitting R005 at the same time. Any hints/tips to prevent the same happening again?

Depends how you have marked - if you are looking at getting all pupils through at a grade C those days have gone. It may be that if a pupil would be an E grade student and given a C then you will be marked down. Need to be really honest in your marking. Most of our low grades stay the same it is our high grades that get thumped with little explanation why. Ignore moderators comments as we worked on these from last year (even sending these comments to new moderator) and got marked down on a whole new set of problems that were not highlighted first time!!!

Still better than a GCSE but OCR do need consistency across their moderators (that was at least the nice thing about the OCR Nationals in that your moderator helped you improve practice).

I would still like to see an A* piece of work - I think this is impossible to achieve under the way this course is being marked!

I have A* work for R002 and R004 if you want some. Well my grades got upheld anyway for both units.
  12. Really annoying because if you look at the examplar provided by OCR it is approximately 8 pages long. Absolutely nothing to it, and that is classed as a really high mark. (cant remember off the top of my head).

I know its hard to avoid, but it really shouldnt be down to which moderator you get as to marks being brought down. Feel like after all their hard work, they just diss it without explanation!
  13. I would love to have a look if possible? I have a* r005 if you need that..

I am starting cambridge nationals in september for the first time. I'm thinking of doing units R004 and R005. Does anybody know where I can get any practice material so I can start writing a SOW?
    Thanks Sharon
