Calculating maternity pay - help please, experts and others

Discussion in 'Pay and conditions' started by ms media, Dec 13, 2011.

  1. I'm terrible at Maths and am trying to figure mine out. Much help would be greatly appreciated. This is what I am entitled to under our enhanced scheme as I've been in the school over a year:
    • First 6 weeks at 90% of a normal weeks pay offset against SMP
    • Following 10 weeks at full pay offset against SMP
    • Following 10 weeks at half pay plus SMP
    • Final 14 weeks at half pay offset against the remainder of SMP.
    Optional extra 12 weeks unpaid.
    My questions are:
    1. How do I calculate a weeks pay? My overall gross divided by 52?
    2. What does 'offset against the remainder of SMP' mean?
I looked on the direct.gov website and it appears SMP is £128.73 at present (I think: not very clear) but doesn't say anything about a total amount you are entitled to to help me figure out what the 'remainder' is.
    Thanks in advance

These are unusual amounts. Is this in an academy or private school?

Indeed it sounds as though you have some enhancement above the STPCD maternity. On the resources section of this site is 'The Maternity Matters' Handbook for download which might give you information that will help :)

  5. Its a regular state school in an inner London borough. This is the enhanced package as I've been there more than a year.
Thanks for the tip re the handbook.
