Calculating Induction Period.

Discussion in 'New teachers' started by sophia_snail, Jul 11, 2011.

  1. Good morning,
I am mentoring an NQT who is part time, She has been qualified since Christmas and on a 0.7 contract and will be on a 0.53 contract next year. We are being given conflicting information about how to calculate how long her induction will be, and when her 3 induction reports should be completed.
We used the calculator on the TDA website, which we found very useful, but the school NQT coordinator has come up with entirely different figures. Where do we find out the exact guidelines?
    Thank you.

I have found that the TDA calculator gives the definitive guidance if anyone has a different calculation then they need to show their workings.0.7 applies to this year so this determines the number of assessments completed ,then 0.5 next year- and you can use the interim assessment to recognise any periods needed to make up time so your assessments fall more evenly.

  4. Normally the TDA induction calulator provides the figures for LA NQT advisers. If there is a difference simply ask the school co-ordinator to provide an explanation for how he/she arroved at their figure and why the TDA induction calculator is not the accepted figure. Normally in a dispute the TDA one would be the accepted figure.
The statutory guidance sets out what you need to know about the whole induction process:
