Bullying in the new OFSTED Framework

Discussion in 'Ofsted inspections' started by robby64, Jul 12, 2011.

  1. Bullying is part of the behaviour and safety judgement. The latest version of the evaluation schedule, under 'good' says of bullying:

    Instances
of bullying are rare. Pupils have a good awareness of different forms
of bullying and take active steps to prevent it occurring. The school
swiftly and successfully addresses any incidents of bullying that do
occur thus gaining the full confidence of pupils, parents and carers.</font>[/i]
By definition therefore, evidence is likely to be gathered from discussions with pupils, the parents' questionnaire and the school's behaviour incident log. However, since this is only part of the B&S judgement there are many other factors that determine the final grade, including attendance.

  2. Does anyone have an experience of an Ofsted inspection on bullying quite specifically? My school is having one this week; a one day inspection with a focus on how the school promotes anti-bullying. Groups of staff and students will be interviewed, there will be a tour of the school and speaking to specific teachers of PSHCE. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated!

  3. There have been a number of these surveys recently as part of a commissioned report on bullying ion schools; if you go the ofsted website at http://www.ofsted.gov.uk/resources/pupils-experiences-of-bullying-school you can see more detail on what they will be looking at including a word document to download. Hope it goes well
