I'm just trying to plan this unit. I'm okay when it comes to planning the researching and writing a biography but what would you do before as the children will need to be familiar with the features of a biography. How long would you spend on looking at the features?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

  3. I would spend 2 weeks reading, discussing and dramatising biographies and looking at their features (grammar, vocab etc), making it specific to biographies and more general (like looking at subordinate clauses, and sentences that express time (e.g. "after this period") etc.
I'd spend 2 days reflecting on these features and planning to write a biography. Then I'd give students a good week to write biographies and revise them. They will probably need research time built into writing time.
Last year my Year 6 class looked at Winston Churchill biographies and some people of their choice, and then researched Anne Frank and wrote her biography. This was of course tied to WWII.
