Best texts for year 1

Discussion in 'Primary' started by mandragora, Jan 3, 2011.

  1. I am thinking about my literacy planning - which always takes me forever - and trying to come with the best texts for year 1.
I try not to always use the same texts, year after year; but have my favourites! The texts that always work well!
The tiger that came for tea (familiar settings)
    Knock, Knock (familiar settings)
    Handa's surprise and Handa's Hen
    How to grow a sunflower
    The tiny seed
    Whatever Next
    The Traction Man
Please, help me find/remember more great texts!
    What are your favourites?

No offence intendedby why do you call them texts?
What's wrong with book or storybook?

  5. Of course, you are right![IMG]
I should have called them books, because that's what they are! I think I was too tired when I was writing my message.
There are, of course, lots of great books for children out there, but I was thinking about books you like to use to inspire children to write.

Mandragora, now I feel like a bully - I was thinking about what a treasure stories are and how the powers-that-be seem sometimes to have reduced them to literacy aids.
I love your favourites too. [IMG]
Thank you for not being offended.

  7. I like books too much! So best thing I could do was to make myself clear.

Got brilliant fantasy stories last year having started with Tiddler by Julia Donaldson.
