I'm being observed tomorrow and the lesson will be on printing. How do I make sure the children don't instantly dive for the paint and keep their hands off so that they can listen? I could just keep the paint away from them until they do the activity but some tempting things will be around!

What are using to print with? Maybe make it so they are practising printing without actually using any paint so holding the printing sponge (example) and pushing it down onto paper and showing them the process of what you want.
Are the children not familar with painting activities?
Make sure you lay down the ground rules and continue to repeat them until they are ready. If you are sending them to a table keep the paint aside until they are sat and waiting for you.
    Good luck!
