Becoming an academy as part of a federation

Discussion in 'Headteachers' started by BertLoveridge, Jan 22, 2011.

  1. What implications are there for a small school becoming an Academy, but doing it as part of a Federation as their OFSTED results aren`t good enough?

  3. Lots of extra staff and support paid for by the federation. You might get influenced by these new staff, but do retain some indivuality once the initial changes are made. Support will be slowly withdrawn as the people are redeployed to earn the federation money by supporting other schools. Hopefully by then the tricks that will help you look like you are improving will be learned and ofsted will be off your back.the head may get a few kid to move on or be absorbed in some way until they get the hint they are not wanted and move on.

  4. Thanks - sorry I didn`t make the initial post clear enough - I was referring to this
"Any school, regardless of their individual Ofsted ratings, can apply to join an existing Academy Trust. In addition, any group of schools can apply in partnership, as long as at least one of the member schools is ‘outstanding' or ‘good' with one or more outstanding features."
ie any school can apply as a partnership - whether that amounts to being the same thing as a Federation isn`t made clear.

  5. Go on the ssatrust website, there are loads of case studies that might help you.

Or alternatively the anti academies alliance website might also be worth a visit.
