    I like the mountains, lake and trees.

    Less impressed with the architecture.

    Spot on. A friend in India coined the term 'The Wedding Cake Schools' to make exactly that point. I can recommend 'No Baboons in India' by John Sharrock Taylor (Amazon) for a blow by blow account of a battle between teachers, whose focus is education, and wealthy promoters whose main interest is display.

    I have heard it said that the less impressive looking the school the more the community strive to overcome this with quality learning experiences. Obviously a generalisation but there might be something to it.
