It's nice to know that it isn't only students (the ban on 'clapping at Manchester'!) who can make fools of themselves...but surely MSPs should know better! o_O

New rules barring public bodies from putting Shetland in a box on official documents have come into force.

Islands MSP Tavish Scott had sought to change the law to ban the "geographical mistake" which "irks" locals, by amending the Islands (Scotland) Bill.

The bill's "mapping requirement" has now come into force, although it does give bodies a get-out clause if they provide reasons why a box must be used.

Mapmakers argue that boxes help avoid "publishing maps which are mostly sea".

Makes on realise why Shetlands want independece from Scotland as they are that far away on the new map.
Dont they think of them selves more affiliated with Denmark?
Now considering all the oil and gas around there they would become rich...not that I wish them to leave the UK

They put Shetland ponies in horse boxes, don't they?
They don't look any further away from Scotland than the Falkland Islands are from Argentina to me.

Impossible OSM. At the time of the Scottish indy referendum, it was made clear that the gas and oil had no value, and were actually a drain on Scotland's economy.
