I'd like to do some of this at home with dd as we have done a bit at baby sensory and she responds well to it. Can anyone recommend a book? Also what I've done seems the same to the little makaton I know - are they the same thing?
  2. I also use a little bit of Makaton with my LO- because I would confuse myself with new signs. It doesn't really matter if you make up your own signs- as long as you are consistent with them, eg. use the same sign every time you feed. I think some of the signs were the same as the sign-along signs which is similar to Makaton. It is generally best to start of with a few simple, frequent and more obvious signs.
I have a friend with a book - will dig out the name.

There are a few Makaton signs on here - some more useful than others!
