Australian 'bushtucker' food with Year 1...

Discussion in 'Primary' started by kellywaaad123, Feb 13, 2012.

  1. I am going to cover some traditional Australian foods - eg. lamingtons and anzac biscuits, but I also wanted to have a bit of fun and get the children designing and making bush tucker trial’ inspired dishes, for example 'squashed fly' cakes (cakes with raisins and sultanas), and wormy spaghetti etc. Does anybody else have any ideas for foods with a 'gruesome twist'?

I can't remember off the top of my head but am sure Roald Dahl's revolting recipes has some good ideas in it. My LO is asleep on me at the mo but I'll have a look when I get the chance!

Some ideas...grobswitchy cake, hot frogs, a plate of soil with engine oil, boiled slobbages or mudburgers. You'd obviously need to check as I haven't taught Year 1 so not sure if these are too complicated! Have fun!
  8. Fantastic, these sounds great!
Think Im definately going to have to purchase this book, thankyou for your help!
