Audacity help - cross curricular project?

    Hello all

I'm writing this as a non-specialist teaching ICT and computing.

I'm beginning to plan a project with the music department for year 8, and whilst I can use Audacity well enough, I don't have the experience to come up with a suitable project.

I'll post this in Music too, but I wondered whether anyone had any bright ideas that might help us get started - I'm not asking for lesson plans, just a topic outline.

    Thanks in advance

    Lil

For shorter tasks (30 sec - 60 sec)* I've found things like news bulletins, radio ads and radio trailers for films/TV work well. For something longer (5-10 min)* I've done some 1930s style radio play episodes.- think Flash Gordon , Sexton Blake - which went down well

For these, I've always used public domain pre-recorded music for the stings, beds , themes and incidental stuff. But if you are working with the music department there's good scope for integration. It might also be worth talking to the English staff as there is the possibility of some cross curricular work there as well

    * never under estimate how long things like this will take to produce

I get students to make a ring tone - you can also talk about audience, why people have their own ringtone, the properties of a good ringtone, the difference between one for a phone call and one for a text message, etc.

Radio shows (as mentioned earlier). We turned it into a little group project where students take on different roles. You could have a news story (get one from the BBC and adapt it so it's suitable for the radio), sports story, weather, jingle, advert etc.

    Thanks all.
I like the link - not enough Audacity for this project, but certainly worthwhile for PowerPoint!
Would LOVE to do a ringtone, but we've just banned their mobile phones, so it would seem a bit off.

Considering something to do with game show tunes, but computer games is a better idea.

    Thanks again.
