Are there any diagnostic test for maths?

Discussion in 'Mathematics' started by rbsrm100, Mar 2, 2012.

  1. Is there any such thing as a test of inventory which would highlight specific areas of weakness in pupil's understanding of maths? Or would I have to make one up to use?

Yes, there are lots. What age of child are you testing? NFER do a whole range - nfer.ac.uk

Thank you for the link to this website. I have spent some time looking around it and cant seem to find any assessments tests, just lots of resources talking about AfL. Do you know if all the tests are to pay for?
    Many thanks

Yes everything costs money. That's education. The AFL tasks are listed here: http://www.nfer.ac.uk/schools/nfer-formative-assessment-service/how-it-works.cfm

Another one my school uses is GOAL: http://www.goalonline.co.uk/maths.asp Again, these cost money. This is because they are researched, well-designed by professionals, standardised, and electronically analysed.

  5. I use the SENT - Sandwell Early Number Test for children who are operating at a very low standard in Maths. This gives me a standardised score and a number age. Only tests number though and not the other strands.
