Arab Culture Art topic

Discussion in 'Art and design' started by Wizzydoo, Apr 22, 2012.

  1. Hi I usually lurk in MFL as that's my subject.
However this term I have been asked to cover the "Arab Culture" part
of Year 9 International Studies, owing to the departure of a
colleague. The bit that is worrying me at the moment is having to do
one/two lessons on Arab art. I have never taught Art in my life. There
has to be a little bit of theory, which can form part of the written assessment
later this term, but obviously I really want the session(s) to be fairly hands
on and preferably fun. They are a well-motivated class - 20 kids, good
behaviour is the norm. I won't have access to an Art Room, but have got a
little bit of money in the budget if I want to buy some materials. I
would be very, very grateful for any advice or suggestions from those who have
    experience in this field!

  3. Hi there, I did in my year 9 a project about artist M.C. Escher influenced by the Arabic tile design of Alhambra. We contrasted this western artist with the islamic design as to understand where it originates from. Finally they designed a tesselation themselves. The unit was thorough in its approach and the designs really turned out beautifully. I could send you the PP and lesson plans if you do not mind that they are not perfectly organised as I did the project in a very busy year.

  4. That would be brilliant - Thank you!
Not sure how this works - do I have to post my email address on here??

  5. I am not sure too, I guess you click on my name and you can send me a message through TES with your email address?
