AQA -Mest1: Ideas for mock exams

Discussion in 'Media studies' started by fifi6, Apr 4, 2011.

1. Hello all,
I have browsed previous posts and utilised many of the ideas, but was wondering if anyone had any fresh ideas for possible texts to set as mocks - moving image.
So far we have covered a few texts in each category:
Opening sequences to TV & film, including the news
Trailers for TV, Film and gaming
Music Videos
YouTube clips
Advertising
In light of the viral clip for the Jan exam, I am hoping the June exam will be slightly more straightforward.
Thank you in advance.

2. Hi,
I also have my fingers crossed for something more straightforward.
I have looked at the Coke Zero adverts that look like film trailers/action films. Link:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7LMZJ_Fb1g
Today we looked at the opening of the first episode of White Van Man which is on the BBC iplayer.
Link: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00ztfps/White_Van_Man_Ollies_First_Day/
I'm also going to look at the Sky Atlantic trailer. Link:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XlYrkhSUPyA
Can I ask which specific texts you have looked at so far? I'm making a last push for revision starting next week and would like to set them some texts to look at over half term.

I too am hoping for something a bit simpler than the January exam! The texts people have suggested are great but may I ask what questions you've come up for them? I think I find that bit the hardest! I've used the Virgin Atlantic 20 years advert I've also used the Disney Christmas trailer 'Winter Wonderland'. I've got the questions I used at work so I'll post them on Tuesday.
Thank you.

4. Hi,
I used these today... I hope this helps. I will try to dig out the questions for the above texts too!

Hi,
I've also used the trailer for Glee. I can't remember whether it was for the show itself or the series one DVD but I just got something off youtube and then used Zamzar to convert it. These are the questions I used:

1 Media Forms (12 marks)How does the trailer use media language to catch the attention of the audience? 2 Media Representations (12 marks)How is High School represented in the trailer? 3 Media Institutions (12 marks)What is communicated in the advertisement about the Glee brand and the experience it offers? 4 Media Audiences (12 marks)

1) 3. In what ways does the trailer appeal to its target audience? 4. How effectively does Disney promote itself and its values in the trailer?
I'm still trying to hunt down the questions I used for the Virgin Atlantic 20 years commercial- ust a week to go now!
Thanks,
Claire
