AQA GCSE Engineering anyone?

Discussion in 'Design and technology' started by doodle_dt, Feb 15, 2012.

  1. Hi, I was wondering whether anyone is planning on delivering the new AQA GCSE Engineering (Single or Double) next year? We have looked at offering the course as a method of making D&T seem more academic as the school currently has a 'downer' on our subject. What does anyone else think about this course?
    Thanks :)

  4. Taught it this year, first year 11 through this year with 2 year 10 classes following. Will be looking at a new engineering provision as soon as one becomes available that has a similar single award. Had nothing but poor support from AQA. lots of contradiction and lack of responces. Subject specialist never got back to me with a 15 point email requesting clarification. (Well he did state that he had called my school 5 times prior to me emailing him but oddly, our school logs all calls and we could not find a record of any of them!)

Tread carefully, read the other posts on here regarding AQA engineering.

    Good Luck

  5. This is my first Year 11 to go through the AQA single award in Engineering (two groups). It is one of the most popular courses in the school. I went to a nearby school to see how it was run and they were offering the double award. This was done over two years, and the teacher was shattered! I wasn't going to put myself in that position! I would agree with cerithom about the support available from AQA. I went on one of their courses last year and asked them why they didn't produce a detailed list of what should be on every sheet for the students. The guy just shook his head. He couldn't give me a proper answer, just "No, we don't do that". So I repied "Why not?" Same answer again! I think I'll just 'wing it' this year, but I might look at other options for September 2013.
