AQA AS Lit - Struggle for modern identity. Wider reading?

Discussion in 'English' started by carrietathomas, Apr 1, 2011.

  1. Hi all,
I was wondering if you could clarify the wider reading aspect of the Unit 1 exam. My younger sister will be taking the exam next month and she is unsure whether wider reading outside of the specified list is encouraged or even allowed. She has received mixed messages about this and is very confused. I am currently doing my PGCE but not teaching A-Level so I'm of limited help!
    Thanks in advance

  2. As long as it is modern literature it doesn't matter where it comes from. It would help if it is something that helps "illuminate" the understanding of the unseen extract (i.e. it has a good comparison). It is also good to compare by language; the extract uses short sentences to...as does...

  3. Look at the spec. recommended list....loads of suggestions.
