Anyone know a short, simple song for assembly please?

Discussion in 'Primary' started by Teacher1974, Jan 16, 2012.

  1. This might seem in bad taste given the topic but when I'm stuck, I often use the tune of Three Blind Mice - you can usually fir words to that tune and the children sing it well. My favourite was 'Be yourself... be yourself...' which I found in an old assembly book.

I did slightly joke about using that song...but yes it is bad taste!

Make up my own? Ummmm... only if very, very desperate!

Are any of these known by your pupils?
I'm going to cut and paste first verses - not sure how it will format!
    Hosanna!

Who spoke words of wisdom and life?

Only the one they call Jesus.

    Understood what people are like,

    Nobody other than him.

    Who performed miraculous signs?

Only the one they call Jesus.

    Healed the sick,

    Gave sight to the blind?

    Nobody other than him.

    Shine Jesus Shine

Lord the light of Your love is shining

In the midst of the darkness shining

Jesus light of the world shine upon us

Set us free by the truth You now bring us

    Shine on me.

    Shine on me.

    One More Step

One more step along the world I go,

One more step along the world I go,

From the old things to the new

Keep me travelling along with you.

And it’s from the old I travel to the new,

Keep me travelling along with you.

One More Step's second verse is :

Round the corners of the world I turn,

More and more about the world I learn,

And the new things that I see

You’ll be looking at along with me.

  4. How about I can see clearly now:

    Johnny Nash

I Can See Clearly Now Lyrics

I can see clearly now, the rain is gone,

I can see all obstacles in my way

Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind

It’s gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)

    Sun-Shiny day.

I think I can make it now, the pain is gone

All of the bad feelings have disappeared

Here is the rainbow I’ve been prayin?for

It’s gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)

    Sun-Shiny day.

Look all around, there’s nothin?but blue skies

Look straight ahead, nothin?but blue skies

I can see clearly now, the rain is gone,

I can see all obstacles in my way

Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind

It’s gonna be a bright (bright), bright (bright)

    Sun-Shiny day.

The second two they know, but really need the KS2 pupils to carry it along.

I'm thinking more along the lines of:

Zaccheus was a very little man
And a very little man was he
He climbed into a sycamore tree
For the Saviour he wanted to see
And when the Saviour passed that way
    He looked into the tree
And said ?Now, Zaccheus, you come down
For I?m coming to your house for tea?

How about Jesus’ hands were kind hands? Very
simple to do and with the message you are after:

    Jesus hands were
    kind hands,

    doing good to all,

    Healing pain and sickness,

    blessing children small;

    Washing tired feet,

    and saving those who fall;

    Jesus' hands were kind hands,

    doing good to all.

    Take my hands, Lord Jesus,

    let them work for you;

    Make them strong and gentle,

    kind in all I do;

    Let me watch You, Jesus,

    till I'm gentle too,

Till my hands are kind hands,

    quick to work for You.

Like the thought...but for a Church school assembly with KS1 about Jesus healing a blind man...?

Sorry, can't find the music, but if you have a hymn book at school it's called 'Perfect Face'.

    Ummmm I can't play it!!!

Online accompaniment meant someone else playing it and I just download it or play it from the computer on the day!

Goodness I sound such an ungrateful so and so! I'm really not at all.
Maybe my student teacher can play the piano?

The second link plays - but just noticed it only has half the tune [IMG]

  17. I learnt to play that on the recorder when I was at school. Could an older recorder group help out? I'm c**p at the recorder but I could play it quite well so it can't be too tricky!
