I agree entirely and tried investigating this some years ago, but no go!
But apparently with Academies being able to set their own pay and conditions, this may be more negotiable in the future, as more schools take this option and the National Pay Scale will go by the board.
Ludicrously we can work as a CS or TA for far less pay without any problem!
  2. I am currently assisting a department. They are so grateful. Normally they have a cover supervisor covering the classes I am now covering. They are desperate for a specialist teacher, say they would love to take me on but they have no budget for it. So instead these students must have a cover supervisor as their ongoing teacher (the whole year). I have observed her teach and whilst she is great at behaviour management, I see her struggle with subject questions. The students must instead refer to notes which have been put on the VLE by the subject head.
Hey ho, what can u say?
  3. Wow, reading your post makes me feel better, but unfortunatley only because I am in exactly the same situation!
I have applied for over 60 jobs since qualifying, had 2 interviews (told I was second choice and they took on someone more experienced) and have been doing supply, but it is totally unreliable. This time last year I thought that I had a good chance of getting a job. Apart from my degree, and getting great marks/comments from teaching practices I have also been a school governor for the past eight years, involved with community projects etc etc - all things that i was told at university would help me to get a job.
The financial position that I now find myself in is absolutely dire, and I have real concerns for the future/ability to pay mortgage. I have asked headteachers to look over my coveing letter, and have lately started to ask for feedback from schools to establish why I was not considered for interview, in fact I feel so frustrated and can't think of what else to do. BUT, I still want to be a teacher, so I've applied to have my supply period extended and am giving it one last shot, but not feeling positive about it all.
  4. Am in the same situation. Sent out countless applications. I have had one interview for a teaching role and they said my lesson was brilliant but my interview questions were too brief. They had called my subject mentor from placement in to do the interview which was a lovely surprise :| Had an interview this morning for a cover supervisor position but someone more experienced got it. She said it was down to me and her and I should be pleased as there were 194 applicants... I'm still unemployed though!! Seriously thinking this last year was a complete waste of time. I am going to have to go and get my job back in a supermarket if I don't find anything in the next 2 weeks, as I have no money left to pay the rent, never mind food...
  5. emillia1, I am so sorry to hear this! You must get down to the jobcentre asap and sign on, they can give you help with housing, etc.
