Any point in applying now?

Discussion in 'Thinking of teaching' started by cavanagd, Feb 16, 2011.

  1. I'm really confused. Loads of people seem to have done interviews and everything, even though the deadline is the end of June. Whats the deal with this? I was going to apply before June but I don't understand why people are getting interviewed already. Is there any point applying now or should I wait until next year?

and lost of people have actually accepted places on courses! Me included!

While the deadline is June, the GTTR website does tell you that providers will receive applications as and when they are submitted - and canthe GTTR that they no longer want any more applications once they have filled their places.

Whilst I would hazzard a guess that many providers will already be nearly full (or absolutely full given that some people have been put on waiting lists), I guess you could try to find a provider with places - you do technically have until June as you say.

The longer you leave it, the less chance you have. And remember...fees are hiked up if you begin it in 2012!

  4. Application opened last September and they started interviewing from around November onwards. Some courses are already full, and others are still interviewing but not accepting any new applications. There are a few that still do but this depends on subject/phase and location - check with GTTR.
What you can do now is if you still want to be considered for 2011/12 entry, then find out on GTTR which courses still have vacancies and then phone them up to find out if it's still worth applying - sometimes they've failed to update their GTTR information. If they say yes, apply through GTTR and hope for the best.
While courses will continue to be filled right till the start of 2011/12 academic year (September), most people apply as soon as application cycle opens to give themselves the best chance - particularly imported for highly competitive courses like Primary. In fact Primary deadline was 1st December - that's when all those who have applied by that date will be considered by their first choice.

  5. What course are you applying for? Primary the deadline was 1st December for 1st choice to consider you. Secondary can choose when to stop considering applications - whenever their course is full.

Apply now, you never know who will have vacancies and you never know who will have dropped out now that bursaries have been cut.

Worst case is you'll be no worse off than if you don't apply!
