Antarctica art ideas

Discussion in 'Primary' started by xteachersarahx, Dec 15, 2011.

  1. Hey,
I am currently planning art activities to link with our new January topic of Antarctica. I have a few ideas and one is to create auroras (perhaps using pastels/water colours etc). The children are Year 2...what do you think the best way to create these on paper would be?
Any ideas for further arty ideas linked to Antarctica would be very much welcome!
    Thanks! x

  2. Take a look at the art of Nerys Levy (Arctic and Antarctic landscapes.) My class worked with wax resist to reproduce some of her effects: heavy wax crayon to produce outlines of icebergs, rocks, seals, penguins etc, then watercolour to fill out the blocks you've produced. The beauty of her work is that she creates big, bold shapes - even my least confident artists were able to tackle this.
