Another drink related thread - single malt whisky...

Discussion in 'Personal' started by regencyrob, Jun 5, 2011.

  1. What is your favourite and why?
Off the shelf I like Ardbeg or Laproaig for peatiness and medicinal phenols.
For something special maybe the bruicclaidach Octomore - worlds peatiest whisky.
Tried a few japanese ones lately
    But which is your favourite??

Old Pulteney. Like nectar, only better.
Tea is such a poor substitute.
  3. I have never heard of that one and I count myself as a conniseur - i know that is wrong but brain not working!
  4. Have seen it - realised its bourbon matured! Not a fan!

Give it a try. I'm not keen on bourbon, but OP is gorgeous.
  7. Just checked it out on www.masterofmalt.com
if you are into whisky try this!
You can buy 'tasters' in 30ml pots!
We like to try those £100 quid bottles we cant afford by the dram!

Love the taster sets. Brilliant birthday gift idea for whisky lovers.
  11. My Dad gets them 3 times a year and we all blind taste and score the whiskies
If you have to try any at all try 'Big Peat' looks cheap = tastes phenomenal!
  12. Laphroaig - vile...but makes outstanding marmalade.

  13. Difficult one this so I'll list the ones I like a lot (or can get cheap!)
    Highland Park
    Dalwhinnie (probably my favourite)
    then in no particular order
    Glen Grant
    Macallan (any)
    Old Pulteney

    I don't like!
    Laphroaig, Glenfiddich
  14. In which case, you should never, ever drink Ardbeg or Laphroaig again!!!

  16. Well, the ONLY, PROPER whisky on the planet is Scotch.
You mean you approve of Japanese whisky...

Aha! Well yes, of course I agree.
But I am intrigued by the prospect of Japanese whisky. I'd give it a try out of curiosity.
  18. Some of it is better than the worst of the Scottish stuff.
  19. I have tasted some Japanese whiskies - that does not mean I prefer them to ardbeg or Laphroig!
Do you know anything about Japanese whisky? I could give you a japanese whisky that you would swear was from Islay - maybe if you have an immaculate palate you would spot the slight sweetness but I doubt it!
I am not saying they beat the best of Scottish whisky but they do fare well against them.
i am sure there would be some Irish and Canadian whisky drinkers who would take offence at your scotch only verdict!
