Ann Patchett is a wonderful story teller

    And she writes like a dream. I have just finished The Magician's Assistant and want to start it all over again. Bel Canto was brilliant, as was State of Wonder. If you haven't tried her, do so now in the summer holidays.

    Bel Canto was also the first book of hers that I read and I loved it. Have you read Truth and Beauty - her memoir of her friendship with Lucy Grealy? Needs to be read alongside Autobiography of a Face though (Lucy's book). I'm just about to start Taft - may take it on holiday with me..
