I'm lacking inspiration for this unit and I wondered if anyone had had any creative ideas for teaching this unit please.

Are you familiar with Ricky Gervais' Flanimals? We did some work on inheritance and the children had to create their own Flanimals animal, showing how some physical features had been inherited.

The statutory content is interesting enough, no need to over think it with 'creativity' and confuse children with discover learning. Employ direct instruction via diagrams, labels and explanations, as per the National Curriculum:

    'Animals including humans
    Pupils should be taught to:

    • identify and name the main parts of the human circulatory system, and describe the functions of the heart, blood vessels and blood
    • recognise the impact of diet, exercise, drugs and lifestyle on the way their bodies function
    • describe the ways in which nutrients and water are transported within animals, including humans'
