Am I still eligible for the golden hello?

Discussion in 'New teachers' started by Theboyritchie, Apr 13, 2012.

  1. Hi,

I qualified as a D&T teacher in 2010 and due to the lack of work in and around Sussex, my first year was spent in supply. Since then I have managed to secure a contract and have been working towards completing my NQT year at the end of the summer term. As completion of my NQT approaches I was reminded of the golden hello payment which I know was scrapped for those starting ITT courses as of September 2011 but as I graduated in Summer 2010 I wondered whether I was still eligible? Have looked around the internet but there doesn't seem to be anything particularly clear about it. If anybody could shed any light on this it'd be much appreciated?

    Many thanks,

    James

You can claim a GHello payment up to a year after completing your induction-you must be employed and teaching your subject area-supply work does not count as payment is via the LA payroll system. I would not delay as the GHellos are now scrapped so there is only residual arrangements in place for a further period. Most claims are sent in to the LA and processed in September/October.
