Am I obliged to cooperate with school-based departmental "mini-OFSTED"?

Over the past few years, the SLT has run "mini-OFSTED" inspections department by department. My team must be coming up soon. Am I obliged to cooperate with this?

As I understand it, Tom, Dick and Harry can come and watch my lessons and I have no problem with that (regardless of any legal or contractual limits whether they exist or not).

What I object to is the pre-meetings / extra observation of colleagues / feedback chat from non-specialist, less-experienced teachers which, in my current frame of mind would be a waste of time.

    Thanks for any advice.

Strictly speaking action short of strike action says you can I assume. Someone correct me if I am wrong though. I think such activities are a waste of time as well, creating unnecessary work. But you would need people to stand with you on this and I wonder whether colleagues will.

In situations like this (and there have been quite a number) I simply remind my HT that I am covered by the action instructions and ask therefore to be left off the programme of visits/observations. And I am.

But some HTs think they are clever and say it's not a Mock Inspection but a 'review' (like in the example above). That is an insult to the intelligence of the teacher. (If it walks like a duck etc)

If it's part of the three hours and agreed in advance and will constitute part of your annual PM then it's OK. If it's additional to the three hours then it's not. They can call it what they like but they only get three hours per year.

I'd say that it depends if this is in addition to departmental yearly reviews which generally include observations. If so then it seems unnecessary. If this is the only SE taking place then it seems reasonable to me.

Again it illustrates what teachers can do if they use their union. Lets get rid of this bullying culture and get back to teaching.
