    Hi All

We've just introduced the idea of topic hooks/stimuli into our curriculum and I'm struggling to think of something that links to my first topic! The topic, broadly, is Africa but the main focus in Ancient Benin and my class will be Year 6.

Any ideas would be so helpful!!

    Many thanks

Perhaps food - have you any cooking facilities - fried plantains, massa (pancakes from millet & rice flour), fruit smoothies...

You could make a simple version of the Benin bronzes with string and foil on top

Benin City, along with many other African settlements were built using fractals. Fractals appear in a great deal of african culture. This is a great hook for learning as you can talk about the architecture (Benin City was once the largest earthworks in the world), but you can also involve maths and art.
