advice - reception to year one

Discussion in 'Primary' started by Crownie13, May 4, 2011.

  1. Hello,
I am a PGCE student. I have completed 2 placements but due to a shortage of offers I was placed in reception both times. I have therefore had no experience of NC planning, or teaching year 1/2 (my course specialises in 3-7yrs).
For my enhancement I am going into year 1 for a week and year 2 for two weeks. I am very nervous, it is a placement with only 1 formal observation and no link tutor. It is expected to enhance an area of teaching, but I am doing this from scratch I feel.
It is classes of 30, lively children so I have been told. Does anyone have any tips at all for how to adapt from being in a reception class, to going into year 1 and 2 classes? Behaviour management/questioning/examples of planning? etc.

Thankyou so much for any help.
